Our name, Studio 1226, derives from the date of birth of my first two greyhounds, Bear (Beam High Kelton) and Willow (Brite White Quick). These littermates were born the day after Christmas, which is known in many parts of the world as Boxing Day in reference to the traditional exchange of gift boxes which takes place. And what could have been a more perfect future gift to us?
Bear and Will were not only incredibly bonded to their people but also to each other despite having been separated at birth and raced at different tracks. Both were retired for the same injury-- breaking the right rear hock during a race within months of each other at age 3. Fortunately, both healed beautifully and never looked back once they landed on our couch. Each has now crossed the bridge, but to say they changed our lives is a tremendous understatement.
As you might easily guess, Animal welfare is the social issue that speaks most strongly to me. I am the past president and adoption coordinator of Arizona Greyhound Rescue (due in no small part to Bear and Willow's influence) and have had the wonderful opportunity to place hundreds of dogs into permanent loving homes. I am also the host of the DVD, The Adopters' Guide to Life with Greyhounds, and the producer of the video, Healing the Grief of Pet Loss. (Upon your request, either DVD will be included absolutely free with the commission of any pet portrait.) I am owned by a number of rescue dogs (including, of course, greyhounds), cats, and even parrots.
Nothing is more gratifying to me that producing a portrait in honor of a beloved pet-- whether living or awaiting you at the Rainbow Bridge. Many fine artists draw and paint pets just as they might approach a still life or a landscape but feel no emotional attachment to their subjects. Not the case with us-- and we love it when clients share with us information about the lives, personalities, and quirks of those we are drawing!
I hope to have the chance to work with you soon. If you have any questions whatsoever please email brad@Studio1226.com and we'll get right back to you.
